A shadow is made when an object blocks light. The shadow appears the side of the
object furthest from the light source. The object must be opaque or translucent
to make a shadow. A transparent object will not make any shadow, as light will
pass straight through it. Opaque object make dark shadows. Translucent objects
make faint shadows.
Transparent materials let light pass through them in straight lines, so that you can see clearly through
them. Glass is an example of a transparent material.
Translucent materials let some light through, but they scatter
the light in all directions, so that you cannot see clearly through them. Tissue
paper is an example of a translucent material.
Opaque materials do not let any light pass through them. They
block the light. Iron stick is an example of an opaque material.
If an object is moved closer to the light source, the shadow gets bigger.
If an object is moved further away from the light source, the shadow gets
smaller.
<Shadows made by the Sun>
1. We can investigate the Earth's rotation by observing the length and position of a shadow.
2. While the Earth rotates from the west to the east, the east part of the
Earth gets the sunshine earlier than the west.
3. This makes the Sun appears to rise from the east in the morning in the
middle of the sky at midday, and sets in the west at dusk.
4. If an object is places in an open space, the length the position of the shadow changes from the west to the east.
-
In the morning, the length of the shadow is longer than the actual object and points to the west.
-
As the Sun rises until midday, the shadow becomes shorter.
-
When the Sun sets, the length of the shadow gets longer.
-
In the afternoon, the length of the shadow is longer to the east.
5. The changes of the length and the position of the shadow from the west to the east shows that the Earth rotates from the west to the
east.

Question words are used to ask about specific qualities, times, places, people,
etc. They are different from yes / no questions (Do you live in France?). We often refer to them as WH words because they
include the letters WH (for example WHy, HoW).
This mindmap provides question words, the use and example sentences. Study the
question words, understand the uses and then look at the examples. Try to think
of a few examples of your own.

Ok, ok. We know that you are busy. We know that most of you - the parents - do not have time to understand what your children are studying these days. We also know that what you have studied some 20 years ago is no longer relevant to guide your children. So we have prepared a high-level, one-glance, one-page note for you for all UPSR subjects - in the form of Mind Map. This is of course won't give you the full details, but after looking at these mind maps, you will know the scope of the UPSR subjects and understand what are expected from your children, thus appreciate the hardship they are going through and spend more time with them during the coming 50 days or so, before the big days!
In this release, we are going to give you the langugage subjects: Bahasa, English and Chinese. The math and science will follow suit by next week. Click the following thumb nails links to view the full maps in PDF file.
